Applied Osteology

Welcome to the home page of Applied Osteology, which is based in Bellingham, WA.

It has been a pretty busy year, and I am still in the process of dealing with the faunal samples we brought back from our first field season in Russia.
If you are curious to know more about how our field season went, you can go to the "Current Projects" page and follow the links to the Kuril Islands Biocomplextiy Project.

Meanwhile, here is a bit about Applied Osteology:

If you have bones or teeth, modern or ancient, that you want identified or analyzed, this is the place to be. My specialty is the analysis of faunal remains from archaeological sites (zooarchaeology).  My particular interest is in studying marine mammal bones, with special emphasis on seals and sea lions.  However, I also work with fish bones and bird bones.

In addition to skeletal research, I also provide science education consultations tailored to the specific needs of middle school, high school, and college classes.  I am currently working with students in Alaska, Seattle, and Bellingham.

If you have, or think you have, human skeletal remains in your possession, please read "A Note About Human Remains."
